Karate England, an organisation formed earlier this year as a part of the English Karate Council, has signed up to the Voluntary Code of Good Governance, an initiative backed by Minister of State for Sport and the Olympics Hugh Robertson MP.
A total of 56 sport and recreation organisations have now signed up to the Code – developed by a coalition of organisations led by the Sport and Recreation Alliance – which was developed to enable sport and recreation organisations to aspire to and maintain good governance by providing signatories with practical advice on improving structures and decision-making processes in their sport or activity.
John Bell, Chairman of Karate England believes that the Code will help Karate England become more effective:
“Following the Code’s principles will help us build on the successes that Karate England has had in recent months such as undertaking and promoting seminars on health and safety, insurance and the law, as it affects Karate, and continue on the path towards good governance”.
Tim Lamb chief executive of the Sport and Recreation Alliance welcomed Karate England’s decision:
“I’m delighted that Karate England has signed up to the Voluntary Code of Good Governance. The Code has been produced by sport for sport and by adhering to its principles the sector can only become stronger”.
