What do you need to do to sign up to The Principles?
The Principles have been produced by the sector, for the sector; therefore we encourage its use throughout every size and type of sport or recreation organisation. By signing up to The Principles, you are demonstrating a commitment to good governance within your organisation.
To sign up, take the following steps:
- Discuss the Principles with your board and agree board approval to sign-up to the Principles and begin implementing them in your organisation;
- Include a commitment to good governance as an objective in your Strategic Plan;
- Select an individual from your board to be governance lead and take responsibility for leading or coordinating governance improvements in your organisation;
- Members can complete The Principles online sign up form on the Alliance Hub, non-members can email governance@sportandrecreation.org.uk for a sign up form.

What if I am already a signatory to the Voluntary Code?
We’re asking all the signatories to the Voluntary Code to reaffirm their commitment to good governance using The Principles online sign up form.

All organisations that have signed up to The Principles will have the right to use our Good Governance logo to demonstrate their commitment publicly on their website and in other communications.
