Find the perfect volunteer to keep your club moving

The Covid-19 pandemic has reaffirmed volunteering as a way of strengthening communities, tackling feelings of isolation and spreading acts of kindness.

Volunteers’ Week, which takes place from June 1-7, is an ideal time for clubs and organisations to take advantage of the extra appetite and new-found appreciation for volunteering.

To celebrate Volunteers’ Week, the Alliance has relaunched the Volunteer Opportunity Finder to make it as easy as possible for clubs and members to connect with a network of people looking to get involved, learn new skills and make a difference to those around them.

Sport and recreation clubs will be at the heart of rebuilding the physical, mental and social wellbeing of the nation. With 200,000 volunteers a month already seeking opportunities online, organisations who need support, have the perfect chance to get the help they need.

According to our GIVERS research, over a third (36%) of people agreed that an online hub of volunteering opportunities in sport and recreation would encourage them to do more physical activity, while findings from our Hidden Diamonds research show that each volunteer creates capacity for 8.5 people to take part in physical activity.

By improving the quality and quantity of online information about local opportunities, together we will make the nation happier, healthier and more active.

We’ve put together five simple steps to support you to recruit volunteers.
