Sunday Times Sportswomen of the Year Awards: shortlist decided

The judging panel for the 2012 SUNDAY TIMES Sportswomen of the Year Awards met for the first time yesterday to assess the nominations for the awards due to be held in an evening ceremony in London on 8 November.

Now in their 25th year, the Sportswomen of the Year Awards are among the most influential in the sporting calendar and the event is supported by the Sport and Recreation Alliance, UK Sport, Sport England and the Women’s Sport and Fitness Foundation (WSFF).

The panel consisted of representatives from right across sport and included Sally Barker (Sport and Recreation Alliance), Amanda Bennett (UK Sport), Sue Tiballs (Women's Sport and Fitness Foundation), Tanya Joseph (Sport England), Jill Douglas (BBC), Eleanor Oldroyd (BBC) and Craig Hunter (Paralympics GB).

They had – after this terrific summer of sport – the unenviable task of whittling down the many names that the public had nominated to find shortlists in each of the 10 award categories.

The shortlist will be revealed in The Sunday Times and on this website in the coming weeks.
