Sport and recreation celebrated at the Alliance's 2013 AGM and awards

More than 200 heads and representatives from member organisations and partners of the Sport and Recreation Alliance attended this year on what was a beautiful summer’s day.

It featured an annual round-up from Alliance chair Andy Reed OBE, a summary of the Alliance’s finances by board director Mike Power OBE and HRH The Earl of Wessex chairing the meeting as a whole.

The Alliance also hosted for the first time a pre-meeting so that members had the opportunity to voice issues and raise questions to the Alliance board in a more informal setting.

Following last year’s success the AGM once again featured the Sport and Recreation Alliance's Community Sport and Recreation awards ceremony, formerly the Sports Club of the Year Awards.

The architect behind Britain’s most successful Olympics gold medal haul for more than 100 years and a tireless campaigner for school sport Baroness Sue Campbell, was presented with the prestigious Arthur Bell Trophy for her services to developing sport in wider society.

Departing Alliance board member Dame Di Ellis, was awarded the coveted Emeritus Award for a life-time's commitment to sport and recreation in the UK.

Blackburn Rovers Community Trust also scored the Professional Club Community Programme of the Year Award which recognises professional clubs that give large amounts back to their local community.
