Partnership forged to improve professional development in county sports partnerships

The Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) has developed a partnership agreement with the County Sports Partnership Network (CSPN).

Coming into effect on 1 September, they will be working together to develop a suite of professional development opportunities to support the county sports partnership workforce.

Formed in 2011 CIMSPA, the professional development body for the UK’s sport and physical activity sector, hopes the agreement – the first of its kind in British sport – will help to highlight the importance of continued professional development within the sport and recreation sector.

Sean Holt CEO of CIMSPA said: “We are delighted that the county sports partnership network has taken the decision to sign up to CIMSPA and in doing so highlight the importance of professional development pathways within their workforce. We very much hope that other sports bodies will follow the excellent example set by the CSPN.

“We are speaking with the Government departments responsible for sport, health and skills to ensure that any funding awarded to sports governing bodies is accompanied by a proviso that they adequately invest in their workforce to tackle the issues of tomorrow, rather than relying on practices that tackled the engagement issues of yester years.”
