New Year Honours list awards Alliance deputy chair an OBE

The New Year Honours list was announced over the Christmas period and revealed that the Sport and Recreation Alliance's deputy chair, Howard Wells, has been awarded an OBE for services to sport administration.

Howard, who was elected to the Sport and Recreation Alliance board in 2000 and was chair from 2001 – 2005, has spent over 36 years working within the sport and recreation sector across a number of sports.

Over the course of his illustrious career Howard, has been chief executive of six different organisations and was the first chief executive of UK Sport and most recently CEO of the Irish FA, when he was also a member of the International Football Association board.

Also honoured in the New Year Honours list was Sport and Recreation Alliance honorary member Richard Baldwin who was awarded an MBE for services to Sport and Recreation.

Richard has worked with the Sport and Recreation Alliance as voluntary tax adviser since retiring in 2005 and championed the Community Amateur Sports Club scheme – which since its inception has helped around 6,300 registered sports clubs save more than £130m.
