Join In to see the benefits of volunteering

Jenny Scott, formerly of Join In and now Volunteer Project Manager at the Alliance, explains a bit more about Join In and how Alliance members can benefit by tapping in to the volunteer movement.

How Join In can support you and your clubs

I recently joined the Sport and Recreation Alliance after four brilliant years at Join In. The Alliance has been handed the baton from Join In and I wanted to explain a bit more about what that means for you and your clubs and how we want to drive and develop volunteering in the sector.

Since London 2012, Join In has been working to connect volunteers with community sports events, recreation groups and physical activity clubs. We want to continue building on this to make sure that we are helping our members to recruit and retain enthusiastic, experienced and knowledgeable volunteers for their clubs.

How can you benefit from Join In?

The quickest and easiest way to find volunteers for your club or group is through the website, Simply set up a club page with information about your club, class, group or event and list which roles you need help with and potential volunteers can get in touch with you directly.

Join In also provides a simple, free, online resource for sports clubs and recreation groups called How-To.

How-To has been created by clubs, for clubs, and shares practical tips on a range of disciplines that will help boost your club or group. This includes advice on writing successful grant applications, building your membership, recruiting and retaining more volunteers and planning fruitful fundraising events.

We understand that every club or group has its own challenges, through How-To you can gain advice on boosting your organisation and learn from other groups who have successfully put these tips into practice.
