Government seeking views on business rates

  • how properties are valued
  • how often properties are valued
  • how bills are set<

HM Treasury and the Department for Communities and Local Government have launched a joint discussion paper about the administration of business rates in England.

The Government has not made any proposals in the document, but instead is seeking views from ratepayers and local authorities about how business rates should be administered from 2017.

In particular, the Government would like views from interested stakeholders on the following issues:

  • how properties are valued
  • how often properties are valued
  • how bills are set
  • how bills are collected
  • how information about ratepayers and business rates is used.

If sports clubs or governing bodies have specific issues in any of these areas that they wish to raise then they are encouraged to respond to the consultation before the deadline on 6 June 2014.
