Dame Di Ellis CBE appointed Alliance vice president

The Sport and Recreation Alliance board has appointed Dame Di Ellis as a vice president of the organisation.

Di Ellis served as both a director and deputy chair of the Alliance for thirteen and six years respectively as well as giving magnificent service to British Rowing, where she acted as chairman for 24 years before stepping down in February 2013.

She is also the rowing representative on the National Olympic Committee, a member of the British Rowing Executive Committee and a member of the British Olympic Association board.

Di Ellis was also awarded the coveted Emeritus Award for a lifetime's commitment to sport and recreation in the UK at the Alliance’s AGM at St James’s Palace, London, last week.

Tim Lamb chief executive of the Sport and Recreation Alliance said:

“Di has played a vital role in the recent history of the Sport and Recreation Alliance. During her time as a director on the Alliance board she brought invaluable experience gained through a lifetime of work in the sector, both as an athlete and an administrator, to make sure that we have continued to go from strength to strength.

“I am delighted she has accepted the position of vice president and hope she continues to be part of the Alliance family for many years to come.”

The Sport and Recreation Alliance board has also elected former directors Pauline Harrison and Richard Yule as Honorary Members following their long and distinguished service on the board.
