Craig Hunter receives the ICSA’s Outstanding Achievement award

Craig Hunter was presented an outstanding achievement award by the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA) at their annual Excellence in Governance Awards on 13 November.

The award is a special award presented by the ICSA in recognition of a significant and long-lasting contribution to the profession of company secretary.

Craig has achieved great success in both commercial and elite sport environments, most notably acting as England Chef de Mission at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi where he led the England team of over 560 members to their most successful overseas result.

Craig has also brought his wealth of experience and expertise in both the corporate and sport sectors to bear on a number of projects with the Sport and Recreation Alliance over the years.

For the first two editions of the Alliance’s popular Board Skills for Sport training course Craig created and delivered sessions on how to adapt and apply corporate governance practices and ideas to the sport sector.

Craig also serves as Chair of the Reference Group for the partnership between the Alliance and the ICSA.

The group plays an important role in helping UK sports organisations become the best run sports organisations in the world and ensuring that all products and services provided by the partnership are tailored to take the specific challenges of sport into account.

With Craig at the helm the partnership has produced the world’s first Advanced Certificate for Sports Governance as well as guidance notes and a Chatham House Rules forum to provide support on issues of sport governance.

Commenting on the award, Craig said:

“I am extremely proud and honoured to receive this prestigious award from the ICSA. I could not have achieved this without the support of the people I have worked with. The role of the Chartered Secretary is very diverse and the skills I have acquired in the corporate world have helped me enormously with my roles in sport and vice-versa.”

Craig’s collaboration has been and continues to be invaluable to the Alliance in making sure that all the practices and models taken from private industry are properly adapted to make them fit for purpose in a sport environment.

The Alliance offers its sincere congratulations to him on receiving this much-deserved award.
