The Sport and Recreation Alliance has received communication from Steve Long, Chief Executive of the CRB, that there will be a government fee increase for CRB checks from 6 April 2011.

The new fees will be:

Enhanced CRB check - £44.00 (An increase of £8)
Standard CRB check - £26.00 (Frozen at 2009 levels)

The government has stated that CRB checks for volunteers will continue to be free of charge which provided a saving to the voluntary sector of approximately £32 million in 2010/11.

Over the coming months the CRB will be working with the Home Office and the Independent Safeguarding Authority to develop proposals on how to implement the recommendations from the criminal records and VBS reviews and continue to maintain and enhance our existing services and overall performance.

The Sport and Recreation Alliance will be working on behalf of its members to seek reassurance that there should be no costs on either checking, or updating CRB checks for volunteers.
