Following the launch of the Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC) consultation by HMRC the Sport and Recreation Alliance has produced simple guidance and analysis of the issues involved.
Since the CASC scheme was first set up in 2002, more than 6,300 clubs have registered with HMRC and have saved an estimated £125 million in business rate relief as well as over £12 million in Gift Aid.
However, over the last two years a number of technical issues associated with registration to the scheme have emerged which have resulted in confusion and frustration amongst many clubs.
The guidance released by the Alliance covers the main discussion points highlighted in the consultation on a point-by-point basis in simple, easy to comprehend language.
The guidance also includes background on the area and the Alliance’s own views on how we see the issues – which include:
- the cost of participation and whether it’s affordable to the whole community
- the levels of income that can be generated from non-sporting activities
- when CASCs can pay players
- what travel and subsistence costs can be paid by CASCs
- whether or not to allow corporate Gift Aid.
