Alliance welcomes Lord Coe as new chair of the BOA

Sebastian Coe has been elected unopposed as the new chairman of the British Olympic Association.

He is taking over from Lord Moynihan, who after London 2012 announced that he was stepping down from his role a year early.

Lord Coe will lead the BOA board in mapping out the future direction of the organisation and seeing that Team GB athletes have the resources, preparation and support they need for Sochi 2014 and Rio 2016.

Coe has also said that one of his main priorities will be to push for tougher penalties for drugs cheats.

Andy Reed, chair of the Sport and Recreation Alliance said:

"With Seb having played such a key role in London 2012's success he is no doubt in a prime position to take Team GB forward to even greater heights in the years to come. The Alliance welcomes and looks forward to working with him closely in his new role."
