With cases of the Omicron variant, and its associated risks still being understood, the Government has announced that England will move to ‘Plan B’ of its COVID-19 Autumn and Winter Plan.

From Friday 10 December, face coverings will be legally required in most public indoor venues. Face coverings will not be required whilst eating, drinking or exercising and will not be required in hospitality settings.

From Monday 13 December those who are able to will be advised to work from home.

From Wednesday 15 December, the NHS Covid Pass on the NHS App will be required for entry into nightclubs and other settings with large crowds. This includes unseated indoor events with 500 or more attendees, unseated outdoor events with 4,000 or more attendees and any event with 10,000 or more attendees. Attendees of these events will need to demonstrate evidence of two vaccine doses via the app or proof of a negative lateral flow test.

It is expected that these measures will be voted on in Parliament next Tuesday 14 December. The Government’s COVID-19 guidance page is also due to be updated in due course and we will provide further updates as necessary.
