We run a wide range of events, training and learning opportunities across the year. They are open to members and non-members alike.

Fit for the Future Convention- 28 - 29 January 2020

 

The 2020 Fit for the Future Convention in association with Howden will bring leaders from across the sector together to look at how being resilient today can help you thrive tomorrow.A sustainable sport and recreation sector is important to keep the nation active and to help address some of society’s biggest problems. So it is important that it is meeting the needs of the present, without compromising the future.This event is an annual favourite in our events programme, and it sold out last January.

This year’s exciting programme is spread over Tuesday and into Wednesday morning and will feature 6 keynote sessions covering the three basic pillars of sustainability: people, profits and planet.The keynotes will be supported by our very popular SPORT Talks. These talks feature examples of activity from within the sport and recreation sector, giving you a real chance to learn from your peers.

Full Package Tickets for the event are now on sale  book now !Please note: we are currently only selling full package tickets. These tickets include the full programme (28-29 January) and networking D, B&B on Tuesday, 28 January.We will not be selling day tickets (for Tuesday 28 January) until nearer the date if space allows. You can make sure you are entered on the wait list if you would like to just attend the day session.

Our Future Facing Leadership – Together keynote is a very special session and only full package tickets will be able to attend this session.We are also offering a limited bursary scheme for some of our smaller, non-funded Alliance members. If you have a turnover under £100,000 and are a charity or a voluntary organisation – please drop us an email for more information. These tickets will be sold on a first come, first served basis and will be day tickets for 28 January only.

Opening Session: Can we protect both the environment and Sport and Rec? - Ettienne Stott, Olympic Gold Medalist

Ettienne will encourage you to see protecting the environment as a human issue and one everyone has a role in. It is important the sector works collectively to make it possible for everyone to enjoy the great outdoors and physical activity now and tomorrow.

 

 

Keynote One: Future facing leadership - Michael M Saunders

Get thinking about the role you play in growing and shaping the success of your organisation. It will also challenge you to consider how you plan with sustainability in mind.  

 

SPORT Talk: Moving towards a positive impact - Hattie Park, Sustainability Manager All England Lawn Tennis Club

How does one of the most famous sport clubs aim to protect the environment all year round whilst preparing to stage one of the biggest sporting competitions in the world?

Keynote Two: Diversity, leadership and sustainability - Prof Kevin Hylton, Leeds Beckett University

This session will look at how to tackle inactivity and increase engagement with those who tend to do less now - so we have a more active nation in the future, no matter what their background, age or ability.

SPORT Talk: Turning your clubs green - Richard Flint, Participation & Club Support Director, England Golf

This SPORT Talk will look at the challenges that arise in convincing sport clubs to become more environmentally focused and how selling the benefits is key.  

 

Keynote Three: Protecting our sporting environment - Craig Bennett, CEO Friends of the earth

Does the  a role to play in protecting the wellbeing of the natural world? Find out in this keynote session.

 

 

SPORT Talk: Being sustainable is a process, Phil Horton, Environmental & Sustainability Manager Royal Yachting Association

Find out how one particular organisation is making sustainability one of their main focuses through their strategic approach and whilst taking global issues across the sport into consideration.

 

Keynote Four: Taking care of your people - Mark Fosh, Divisional Director, Howden 

A key part of the success of any organisation is the people: staff, volunteers and participants. Learn more about the importance of taking care of your people in this talk.

 

Keynote Five: Innovative investment in sport - Richard Speak / Pete Maguire, Director(s) Sporting Assets 

Whether your organisation is an NGB, sport for development charity, Active Partnership or a non-profit federation or association, this interactive session will explore how your organisation can become more resilient through sustainable revenue generation.

 

Keynote Six: Future facing leadership - together, Lisa Wainwright, CEO, Sport and Recreation Alliance, Tim Hollingsworth, CEO, Sport England and Sally Munday, CEO, UK Sport.

This is a unique opportunity to look ahead to the future of sport and recreation across both the elite and grassroots. Industry leaders will be sharing some insights into their new strategies.

 

 

Community Sport and Recreation Awards Ceremony- March 2020

For over 20 years, the Community Sport and Recreation Awards have been showcasing the positive impact of grassroots sport in local communities up and down the country.

These annual awards recognise the programmes and initiatives associated with our members and help to raise awareness of the value of grassroots sports and recreation in the UK.

Governance Training Programme (GTP)- All year

This programme will run across the whole year and will include a series of workshops and webinars which will focus on how you can improve governance practices within your organisation.

The programme will draw upon The Principles of Good Governance for Sport and Recreation and will include:

The GTP will take place in various locations across England and you can access our webinars online. We will continue to add more training opportunities in the areas which you have identified as important to you and your organisation.

Members can access workshops at significantly reduced rates and webinars are free. Full details of all the training opportunities are available here.

 

Summit Series- All year

Our  Summit Series is a new roundtable discussion bringing likeminded people from across the sector together to discuss policies and issues. There will be 5 events as part of the Summit Series, which will be free to attend for Alliance members. We have chosen the topics based on your feedback over the past year; however, if you have a burning issue that is not listed below, and you would like it to be considered for a future Summit Series, please let us know.

Each Summit Series will take place from 10:00am-1:30pm and will include a working lunch. We are pleased to have the Summit Series hosted by Saffery Champness.
