Lead and Pathway Performance Psychologist (Consultants and Secondments Considered)

PURPOSE

We’re introducing this exciting role to work as part of the England Men’s Performance Science and Medicine team. The role will be responsible for strategic oversight of performance psychology support across England Men’s senior teams while practically leading and delivering performance psychology provision to the England Young Lions programme.

YOU’LL LOVE THIS JOB IF

  • You enjoy supporting coaches and staff to develop psychologically informed environments and coaching practice that focuses on the individual player’s needs.

YOU’LL BE DOING

  • You will be responsible for strategic oversight of performance psychology support across England Men’s senior teams while practically leading and delivering performance psychology provision to the England Young Lions programme. This will include:

    • Conducting screening and performance profiling assessments to understand players’ needs.

    • Supporting the psychological needs of players within the team environment, encompassing performance and wellbeing. This will include UK based and overseas training camps and competitive series.

    • Ensuring coaches and support staff work collaboratively with performance psychology to ensure psychological aspects are seamlessly integrated into all training and development programmes.

    • Providing education to staff on leadership development and bespoke player management strategies.

    • Working with the clinical psychologist, actively participate in case formulation, and well-being forum meetings with medical and support staff.

    • Supporting player and staff transitions between teams, programmes, and environments.

    • Collaborate with other S&M staff to develop holistic "Return to Play" support plans for players.

    • Working as part of the Young Lions Science and Medicine team you will be expected to contribute to the Department Plan-Do-Review cycle.

  • Work closely with the Clinical Psychologist, Performance Psychologists, Chief Medical Officer, and Medical Panel providing expert judgment and decision-making as part of the well-being forum.

  • Drive high standards and support best practice across the First-Class Counties and Academies through strategic direction and technical guidance regarding the provision of performance psychology support.

  • Provide subject matter knowledge to the County Science and Medicine Audit & Review.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with external partners and stakeholders who contribute to the success of performance objectives and programmes through research and innovation projects.

  • Contribute to the England Men’s Performance Science and Medicine team, and conduct knowledge development projects individually or with others to ensure we continue to deliver up to date and excellent psychological support.

YOU’LL HAVE

  • Undergraduate degree in Psychology, preferably a post-graduate degree.

  • British Psychological Society Chartered Status or BASES Accredited (or equivalent).

  • Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

  • Up-to-date experience and expertise working with Domestic and/or international cricket as a Performance Psychologist.

  • Background in or significant understanding of adolescent brain development and its role in understanding player development and evaluation of talent.

  • Experience of delivery of resilience, identity, and leadership work within a coaching context.

  • Experience in delivering performance psychology and leading initiatives relating to performance psychology and culture within elite sporting pathways.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Enhanced DBS.

  • Full Driver’s license.
