NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

England Athletics is the membership and development body for grassroots athletics and running clubs in England. Our purpose is to inspire more athletes and runners of all abilities and backgrounds to fulfil their potential and have a lifelong love for the sport. We work in partnership with the wider athletics family, especially UK Athletics and Sport England and provide national level competition.

As a membership organisation we have currently have c1,650-member clubs/bodies and c140,600 registered athletes, and we exist to provide services and support to our members and to promote and deliver athletics and running activities across all ages, event disciplines, ability levels and aspirations. There are also more than 7m who run each month in England, 4,000 licensed road races and 148,500 active RunTogether participants operating in more than 2,800 registered running groups.

Our vision is for athletics to become an inclusive sport where everyone belongs and can flourish, led by a network of progressive clubs and organisations, and supported by a sustainable, respected, and trusted membership and development body. In achieving this we will expand the capacity of the sport, sustain, and increase participation and performance levels as well as influence participation in the wider athletics market.

England Athletics is seeking to strengthen its Board with an exceptional individual who wishes to serve as a Non-Executive Director and support the direction for the next phase of the strategy from 2021. England Athletics will also play a pivotal role in the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. The successful candidate will join the England Athletics Board at an exciting and challenging time. They will have a passion for success and demonstrate a strong commitment to the delivery of excellence and quality.

As a diverse sport, it is important that England Athletics has a diverse board and that each Non-Executive Director brings a range of skills, knowledge and experience and that they come from different backgrounds. The successful candidate will be able to make a significant contribution to the Board of England Athletics and support the organisation to achieve its strategic goals.

England Athletics is looking for a Non-Executive Director with previous Board experience, who demonstrates integrity, sound judgement, emotional intelligence, personal presence, communication and listening skills, and flexibility. Recent involvement, or an interest, in Athletics is essential along with the willingness to devote the necessary time. The Board is particularly looking for strengths in HR, Governance, other sports or Government. However, we would welcome applications from those with all relevant skills.

The Board meets around 6-8 times a year and Board Members will additionally be appointed to one or more Board Committees or Task & Finish Groups.
