Regional Development Officer (Midlands)

Salary: £34,000 - £38,000 per annum

Permanent, full-time (35 hours per week)

Location: Midlands Region, home-based

The RYA offers a range of benefits which include; a company car, a personal pension scheme, free life insurance and a total annual leave package of 28 days (plus public holidays).

The RYA has a mission to increase the diversity and number of boaters within the United Kingdom, in order to protect our network of clubs, centres, class associations and support the broader marine sector and industry. Having introduced over nearly a million young people into boating since 2005 through the RYA’s OnBoard programme and 39,000 a year through Push the Boat Out, the RYA has achieved a great deal. However, the world is changing and boating needs to work hard to continue to attract new participants and ensure they are supported through a lifetime within the sport.

The Role

The RYA is looking for an experienced people and project manager, who will lead a team to deliver the RYA Midlands regional plan. Their remit will be to lead on RYA boating development within the RYA’s Midlands Region. This requires working collaboratively with a diverse network of volunteers, clubs, commercial centres and other partner organisations to promote and protect safe, successful and rewarding British boating in the Midlands.

The ability to work constructively with a wide range of people is key, as will be the ability to network and influence more broadly across the RYA and with the many stakeholders and partners with which the RYA works.

Due to the detailed nature and breadth of the role, the successful candidate will have a strong background in instructing and/or coaching RYA disciplines and a detailed understanding of the sport or the marine sector. This role requires the ability to manage multiple projects to ensure the successful delivery of the regional plan. They will have experience of managing and developing a team and working with a complex network of supporting stakeholders.

As our Regional Development Officers work remotely, the ability to work independently and with little supervision is vital. As is the ability to work to detailed targets, goals and ambitions. Home based, the role involves significant travel to clubs, centres and other venues within the region and regular attendance to conferences and events outside of normal office hours which time off in lieu is allowed.
