Workforce Professional Development Committee Chairperson- Performance Sport (voluntary position)

About the Role

We seek enthusiastic, active members of the sport and physical activity sector to fulfil open roles on Workforce Professional Development Boards (WPDBs) and Workforce Professional Development Committees (WPDCs).

The strategic vision of the WPDBs and WPDCs is to grow the attractiveness of working and volunteering in the sport and physical activity sector and ensure all customers and consumers have an excellent experience across all areas of the industry.

As a WPDC Chair of the Performance Sport sub-committee you will act as the figurehead of the sub-committee to lead the overall work delegated to the committee from the board of trustees.

You will be the leading source of expertise and leadership for all sports and physical activity professions in the relevant board or committee.

The purpose of the WPDB and WPDC is to act as a safeguard in delivering our sector’s employers and deployers asks by:

  • Shaping standards for professionals working in our sector.
  • Influencing stakeholders and policy, holding them to account to deliver at pace.
  • Providing opportunities to support individuals to be the best they can be.

We seek expert candidates with significant knowledge or experience operating strategically in performance sport.

The WPDB shall strive to ensure that it contains, at any time, a balance of members who have the specific skills, knowledge, and influence from the relevant industries across the sector.

Key tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Provide leadership and direction to the sub-committee and enable the committee to fulfil their responsibilities for the work delegated to them from the CIMSPA board of trustees.
  • Ensure that the committee pursues its objects as defined in its terms of reference, charity law, company law and other relevant legislation/regulations.
  • Work in partnership with the board of trustees, Chair of the board, CEO and senior management team and support the employees, helping them achieve the aims of the organisation.
  • Optimise the relationship between the sub-committee, board of trustees, employees and membership.
  • Facilitate the sub-committee in direct, purposeful, strategic actions and decision making.
  • Set an example in the values and behaviour of the institute, acting at all times in line with the board and sub-committee member code of conduct and the CIMSPA members code of conduct.
