About The Role

 

The Masters Working Group (MWG) provides input on strategic direction, sport development and membership engagement for the Masters swimming discipline within Swim England. The MWG is a sub-group of the Swimming Leadership Group (SLG) which has overall responsibility for governance and development of swimming in England.

As a Group Member you will be expected to meet the group at minimum, 4 times per year with in person or online. Generally these meetings will fall on evenings or weekends.

The specific responsibilities of the MWG are:

  • To contribute to the discipline implementation plan, which is written by the Swim England Sports Directorate in conjunction with the SLG Chair.
  • To evaluate regularly the Masters elements of the swimming plan and provide feedback on progress to the SLG.
  • Actively to engage with the Masters representatives of the Swim England Regions (regional Masters representatives) to inform activity and the wider Masters community.
  • To make recommendations to the SLG in relation to rules and regulations connected to the technical delivery of Masters Swimming.
  • To feed into the work of the Home Countries Masters Swimming Management Group (HCMSMG) (or any successor) and to report to the SLG on HCMSMG activity.

The above means that the MWG will take responsibility for and be engaging in and initiating a number of initiatives including, but not limited to:

  • Organising National Masters competitions including entry criteria, meet criteria, entry packs etc.
  • Provide input to the development of coaching for Masters.
  • Growing and developing Masters swimming in England.
  • Developing and mentoring clubs
  • Promoting equality in Master swimming.
  • Developing standards in Masters Competitions.
  • Communicating and engaging with the Masters community.

In line with the Terms of Reference under which the MWG operates, there are now two vacancies on the group.

About You

We are looking to engage two volunteers who have experience of, or passion for Masters Swimming and have recent or current experience of the following:

  • Participating in Masters Swimming.
  • Volunteering or working in a governing structure of an organisation either professionally or through sport.
  • Experience of competition organisaiton.
  • Experience of engaging a diverse community.
  • Experience in club or coach development.
We are also looking for the following personal attributes:
  • Energetic and willing to take on key tasks
  • Motivated to achieve change
