Location: West Midlands

The British Equestrian Federation is the National Governing Body for Equestrianism in the UK, affiliated to the FEI and supported by UK Sport and Sport England.

The organisation has 19 Member Bodies reflecting the interests of a very broad spectrum of equestrian sports and activities, ranging from Olympic and Paralympic competition, to equine welfare, trade and recreational riding. Equestrianism has huge public appeal within an extensive competitive and recreational landscape.

Some 2.7 m people in the UK ride each year supported by a strong core of enthusiasts, spectators and volunteers, and creating a substantial market with major economic and social benefits. Equestrianism is a gender and age-neutral activity, enabling it to play a key role in creating a more active nation.

Purpose of the Role

Reporting to the Head of Communications, the Marketing and Communications Officer will be responsible for:

• assisting the Head of Communications and wider team in the coordination of the British Equestrian Federation (BEF) marketing and communications strategies; and

• delivering the BEF’s digital and social media projects.

The Challenge

• Assist the Head of Communications and other members of the BEF team with ongoing activity to engage increasing numbers with BEF and equestrian sport.

• Write and produce quality content, working with key stakeholders to produce engaging news, features, blogs and videos for BEF and Equestrian Team GBR websites.

• Oversee day-to-day activity on and contribute to the Equestrian Team GBR social media channels, showing innovation to improve quality, reach and engagement of new audiences.

• Produce and distribute BEF e-newsletters to communicate Federation, Member Body and wider equestrian community news.

• Support the Communications Manager with the promotion of the Equestrian World Class Programme and athletes, especially during Championships.

• Draft press releases on BEF activity for distribution to media and stakeholders.

• Assist with media enquiries to communicate compelling messages that maximise coverage for equestrian sport.

• Assist with compiling, monitoring and evaluating reach and coverage for BEF activity.

• When required, provide support with event organisation to engage with the wider public, and help coordinate additional onsite PR opportunities.

• Manage artwork, photo and video library and permissions and uphold correct use of the various BEF and stakeholder brands. What you need to succeed

• Extensive experience of the equestrian sports industry is essential.

• Significant knowledge of social and digital media and able to demonstrate success in these areas.

• Strong understanding of key social media platforms including YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram

• Demonstrable experience in a marketing and communications role from within the equestrian industry, with proven experience of writing engaging content for a range of channels

• Exceptional writing ability and able to confidently produce content to a variety of timelines.

• Knowledge of CMS systems and managing web site content

• Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator design packages (desirable)

• Working knowledge of HTML (desirable)

• Ability to create and edit short films would be advantageous. Personal skills and characteristics:

• Focused and diligent with the ability to prioritise workload.

• Creative and innovative, with competency across digital and social media applications.

• Comfortable working under pressure in a fast-paced sporting environment.

• A team player with a can-do attitude.

• Excellent communication skills and ability to maximize stakeholder relationships.
