We are looking for an outstanding person to lead new business growth and sponsor engagement across our team. The successful candidate will seek out new opportunities to increase investment into physical activity and grassroots sports participation, manage and build existing sponsor and partner relationships and explore innovative and enterprising ways to grow the organisation.

Active Surrey is the lead agency for physical activity and sport in the county, and is committed to working in an innovative, inspiring and impactful way to get more people, more active, more often. This is because evidence shows that active people live healthier, happier and more prosperous lives.

We have a strong track record but are always looking for new ways to influence, enable and develop physical activity across Surrey.

Following a review of our work and a successful Sport England funding application, we are now seeking a Business Development Lead to secure Active Surrey’s ongoing growth. This is an exciting time for the organisation as we look to diversify our income streams and create new and impactful products and services.

The Business Development Lead will play a key role in making this happen and will be part of a vibrant team responsible for insight, innovation, marketing, communications, business development, finance and operations.

We are looking for someone with strong sales, influencing, numeracy and communication (verbal and writing) skills who is customer-focused and empathetic.

The successful candidate will help us maximise the impact of our work in a fast-changing world and will:

• Conduct research into new and existing markets in order to identify new business growth opportunities.

• Nurture and grow existing and new commercial relationships and develop joint venture / profit share deals.

• Attract new sponsors / partners to invest in Active Surrey and ensure their ongoing needs are met.

• Work closely with both internal and external stakeholders, providing a commercial lens on our portfolio of products and services.

• Deliver efficiencies through initiating joint procurement / shared services internally and/or with external partners. Active Surrey, part of the national County Sports Partnership (CSP) Network, is a not for-profit organisation, hosted by Surrey County Council.

Based at Active Surrey’s office in Woking, the job will involve will involve meetings with partners and clients which will mean travelling around the county, or further, on a regular basis.

The ability to travel between sites is therefore required for this post. Travel costs are reimbursed. The work will also include a reasonable number of unsociable hours, including occasional weekend and evening work.
