General Information

British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS), the representative body for sport within the Higher Education sector, invites applications to join the Board as a Non-Executive Director. The period of appointment is for three years, commencing January 2018.

BUCS is led by a Board of Directors, consisting of our Chair and eight Non-Executive Directors. All posts are recruited through open advertisement, with two positions coming from within the BUCS’ membership.

The Chief Executive and the Company Secretary also sit on the Board, but for reasons of Trust status are not formally directors of the Company.

Since its inauguration in 2008, BUCS has been successful in raising the profile of University sport and has engaged with many national funders of sport and corporate organisations. It has raised the profile of competitive sport in the higher education and promoted the importance of student sport both inside and outside university communities. For further details on BUCS, please visit the website www.bucs.org.uk

The BUCS’ mission and vision statements:

Mission: Providing the best university sport experience in the world

Vision: A world class higher education sport and physical activity experience, creating the most engaged university communities in the world

We will achieve our mission and vision by broadening the scope of our strategic vision to encompass the full range of activity which takes place within the university sport setting, from physical activity and health through to performance sport; creating a workforce within the membership and the communities within universities; and raising the profile of BUCS within these communities and externally with key strategic partners, including celebrating the successes and impact of the delivery of our association to the fullest.

The Board plays a key role in guiding the strategic direction of BUCS and achieving the aims of the strategy.

The Board will meet normally four to five times per year and interested nominees should be prepared to devote approximately eight days per annum to BUCS (includes reading time and some key representative events). Appointments will be for a three year term.
