Head of Communications

Salary: £48,000 - £58,000 (dependent on experience)

Location: 60 Charlotte Street, London W1T 2NU. Travel will be required in the UK and abroad as necessary.

Hours of work: Such hours as are necessary to fulfil the duties. This will involve a minimum of 35 hours per week, and include work in evenings and weekends as required.

Job Purpose

· The Head of Communications is responsible for leading integrated communications campaigns for the BPA. With the aim of raising the profile of ParalympicsGB amongst the British public the job-holder will conduct proactive media and digital campaigns to promote the team and its athletes. The Head of Communications will identify opportunities to promote and raise the profile of the organisation focused on its vision ‘Through sport inspire a better world for disabled people’.

· The Head of Communications will develop and maintain positive relationships with National Governing Bodies, journalists, agencies, commercial and strategic partners through personal contact, events and initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy

· Develop alongside the Director of Communications the Communications strategy for the organisation with the aim of raising the profile of ParalympicsGB amongst target external audiences. 

· Responsible for developing communications ideas and plans for components of the overall strategy.

· Responsible for managing budget and financial reporting.

Project management

· Project manage key communications campaigns including Games-time campaigns, fundraising campaigns, and corporate partner activations.

Media

· Lead the development of a proactive media plan with Communications Manager with the aim of increasing media coverage of ParalympicsGB and BPA, particularly amongst targetted media. Working with the Communications Manager to create proactive press opportunities, team announcements for Summer and Winter sports and ParalympicsGB team launch. 

· Developing full range of games-time media services including  Games-based and UK-based staff team to cover all sports and news service.

· Responsible for reactive media messaging including crisis communications, giving advice to senior staff and board members on suitable messaging and course of action.

Digital

· Lead the development and oversee digital strategy with Digital Manager utilising all digital channels to promote ParalympicsGB, implementation of digital marketing plans to promote ParalympicsGB and its activities with the aim of developing and increasing audience reach. 

· Meeting KPIs and creatively exploring new ways of utilising digital channels.

Branding

· Lead the development and implementation of the ParalympicsGB and BPA brands including working with suppliers on production of physical branding items for pre-Games and Games events.

Marketing

· Developing marketing fundraising communications working with the BPA’s Commercial team. Working creatively to further develop and enhance BPA fundraising with the aim of increasing the amount of funds for the BPA.

Corporate communications

· Oversee publication of corporate publications including corporate strategy, Games review, media handbook and team handbook, to include commissioning and briefing work with designers, copywriters and printers.

Line management

· Responsible for the line management of three members of staff – Communications Manager, Digital Manager, Communications Officer. Responsible for performance management, setting team and personal objectives and managing team relationships and development.

· Responsible for the management of suppliers and contractors.
