We all know how frustrating it can be to lay our hands on governance information that we know exists but that we just can't find. Smart Sport is designed to help.
Our governance team have worked to compile a whole host of information designed to help sport and recreation organisations with legal compliance, ethical and effective organisational structures, policies, procedures and governance.
Smart Sport is separated into eight clear sections which are outlined below. The sections can be viewed by clicking on the links below, using the menu on the left or using the Smart Sport menu tab found at the top of our website.
This section includes information, guidance and templates on the structure of an organisation, the role of the board (including recruitment tips and induction materials) and board evaluations and the role of committees.
This section includes information, policies and templates on pulling together a strategic plan, advice on how to underpin it with an operational plan and guidance on pulling together a comprehensive risk management strategy.
This section includes information, policies and templates relating to volunteers, participants (including safeguarding, anti-doping, equality and integrity), public/spectators and members in general.
This section provides information, guidance and templates for financial management, IT and data protection and facilities management.
This section provides information, guidance and examples of communications strategies, engagement with stakeholders (including sponsors) and marketing plans.
6. Help and assistance
This section provides links to sporting bodies and networks and links to community and voluntary sector bodies. You can also request example policies through our web form and find information on previous and future governance events.
7. Voluntary Code of Good Governance for the sport and recreation sector
This section is dedicated to the Code which was designed by the sector for the sector. It contains pages on each of the seven principles of the Code a list of all organisations who have signed up to the Code and examples and advice on how organisations have imbed the principles in meaningful ways for their organisation.
8. Governance events
This sections provides information on current governance events that might be of interest and takes you to the relevant pages of our website to book onto the events. It also provides details of past governance events and you can download presentations and watch videos on these pages.
We hope that Smart Sport provides an online resource for all sport and recreation organisations to share good practice and helps encourage organisations to work collaboratively and share knowledge rather than re-invent the wheel individually.
We also hope that Smart Sport highlights legislation that has a relevance to sport and provides information on how to comply with the legislation.
