Marine Society and Sea Cadets (MSSC) is the nation’s largest maritime charity and the governing charity of the Sea Cadet Corps (SCC), a civilian voluntary youth organisation comprising some 400 or so volunteer Sea Cadet Units, throughout the UK.

The SCC offers a wide range of youth opportunities with the same enduring objective – to foster good citizenship in the community.

We currently have vacancies for two Instructors at our Sea Cadet Training Centre based in Weymouth.

One position is permanent, and the other is to act as temporary maternity cover from 1 March 2013 until 30 September 2013.

However, please note that the maternity cover position may finish early or be withdrawn if we receive notification of the post holder’s return.

Sea Cadet Training Centre Weymouth has recently been re-developed and the new facility boasts the most up-to-date technologies and systems making it eco-friendly and comfortable.

The training centre is open for 50 weeks of the year and hosts many different events. The main portion of this is for Cadet (10 to 18 year olds) training although outside bodies do book the facility for training and other purposes.

The role of each Instructor is to assist the chief instructor and his team in the delivery of afloat training which will involve the supervision of, and training delivery to young people.

The successful candidates will have previous experience of working with young people and hold the RYA Dinghy Instructor (Coastal), RYA Safetyboat (Coastal), RYA Powerboat Instructor (Coastal) qualifications as a minimum.

Knowledge of maintenance would be useful.

Working hours are variable but no more than an average of 44 hours per week as determined by the training programme.

The post can be demanding during the sailing season and there is a generous leave entitlement.

For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Dave Bradford, the Commanding Officer SCTC Weymouth, on 01305 775191.

Applications should consist of a completed application form, and the completed equal opportunities monitoring form, both available from the website, http://www.ms-sc.org.uk/afloat-instructors-x-2. Please feel free to submit your CV in support of your application.
