Physical activity and health: Working together to get the nation moving

Improving the nation’s health and tackling inactivity are priorities for Government and decision makers in public health. We know that the sport, recreation and physical activity sector is already contributing to this agenda but more can be done to fulfil physical activity’s potential to help individuals and communities live happy, healthy lives.

Our Fit for the Future programme aims to support and challenge our members and partners to effectively respond to the ever-changing external environment. Health was a key theme identified within this so we have published our Physical activity and health report in partnership with ukactive.

The report provides a snap shot of the public health and commissioning landscape in England and sets out the key role the sport, recreation and physical activity sector can play in improving physical and mental health outcomes.

The report also includes a number of key policy recommendations to ensure that both national and local frameworks encourage and facilitate joined-up working to help get more people to be more active.

In addition, the report contains case studies which share outcomes and learning from current projects, as well as top tips from expert contributors, including Public Health England and Sport England, on how to engage with the health agenda.

You can download the report, as well as download the individual case studies and top tips via the links below.

We’re keen to build on this resource so if you have a case study you’d like to share with us please send to policy@sportandrecreation.org.uk
