Arthur Bell Trophy and Spirit of Sport and Recreation Award 2022

agm ()

Each year as part of our Annual General Meeting, the Sport and Recreation Alliance recognises the incredible achievements of individuals and/or organisations who have made long-standing and notable contributions to our sector. These form the Arthur Bell Trophy and Spirit of Sport and Recreation Award, formerly the Emeritus Award.

HRH, The Earl of Wessex will once again be on hand to host the awards and to congratulate and celebrate with our winners on the day. Nominations are now open for the 2022 Awards, it's encouraged that you submit your nomination at your earliest convenience.

Nomination forms are below and if you would like any more information about the awards or assistance in completing a nomination form, please email membership@sportandrecreation.org.uk.

Arthur Bell Trophy

Nominations for the Arthur Bell Trophy are now officially open!

This trophy is presented to an individual or organisation that is deemed to have made a phenomenal contribution to the development of community sport or recreation. As the nation, and our sector in particular, makes a recovery from the pandemic, this award represents the perfect opportunity to recognise the outstanding work taking place in our communities and celebrate.

Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, Sir Bobby Charlton and Lord Sebastian Coe are just a few of the many sporting greats to have won this award, and you can nominate someone to follow in their footsteps.

Share the news with your networks, tell your friends and get your nominations in to ensure those who contribute so much are given an opportunity to be celebrated.

Please note that, unless you are an Honorary Member of the Sport and Recreation Alliance, your nomination will need endorsement by your National Governing Body (or equivalent) and we shall contact the relevant person within the organisation upon receipt of your nomination. If you are an Honorary Member, you may submit a nomination without the need for this endorsement.

Spirit of Sport and Recreation Award

Nominations are now open for our newly renamed Spirit of Sport and Recreation Award.

Formerly the Emeritus Award, for more than 10 years, it has recognised volunteers in our sector who have dedicated their lives to helping to get the nation active.

It has been renamed as we feel the title ‘Spirit of Sport and Recreation Award’ better represents what the award is all about – volunteers in our communities who are true heroes within the sport and recreation sector.

Volunteers who, for many decades, have been the basis for the great successes and experiences that we’ve had in sport and recreation, be that in our parks, on our streets or in our stadiums. This includes those who have supported the Alliance with its work over many years, helping the organisation and its members to seize opportunities and tackle challenges.

Previous winners of the award include Sir Hugh Robertson KCMG MP, Dame Diana Ellis, and Dame Mary Peters CH DBE.

We are happy to accept repeat nominations from previous years and if your organisation is a member of the Sport and Recreation Alliance, we want to hear from you! As part of this process, we will also need the endorsement of your National Governing Body (or equivalent).
