The UK Bribery Act comes into force on 1 July 2011. Organisations should use the period between now and 1 July 2011 to:

  • assess the bribery risk
  • ensure you have in place adequate anti-bribery policies and procedures

We have produced a guidance note to help you.

It has been acknowledged that ‘industry practice’ will be considered in terms of being proportionate with corporate hospitality. In other words what is acceptable practice for other like bodies will be used as a benchmark when assessing if a gift is proportionate.

As a sector it may be useful to work together to establish sensible benchmarks of what counts as lavish and what legitimate uses of corporate hospitality are, or to identify principles which could be applied by sport and recreation organisations when developing policies.

The Sport and Recreation Alliance is happy to facilitate a forum or a working group with the support of Farrer & Co to develop guidance for sport and recreation organisations to ensure that all policies are in line with like-minded organisations if there is a need for this. If you feel this would be helpful and would be interested in being a part of a working group on this then please contact Joy Tottman via email
