Regulatory burden review nearing completion

Last year the Department for Culture, Media and Sport commissioned the Sport and Recreation Alliance to produce a report into the regulatory burden on sport and recreation clubs in the UK. Our Policy and Communications teams are busy putting the final touches to the report, which is entitled Red Card to Red Tape – How sports clubs want to break free from bureaucracy, prior to its publication on 22 March 2011. 

With nearly two-thirds of grassroots sports and recreation clubs believing they are tied up by too much red tape, the report examines the extent of the regulatory burden placed on them.

As the UK’s umbrella organisation for sport, the Sport and Recreation Alliance represents over 320 national governing and representative bodies in the sector. The review is the product of six months of extensive research and engagement with our members, including an online survey of sports clubs, expert workshops and direct consultation. It will draw upon a wide range of case studies and will make recommendations for reforms that will allow sports clubs across the country to operate more freely and effectively.

The report will be launched on 22 March with a reception in Parliament where the Sport and Recreation Alliance will be joined by former England rugby union international Brian Moore, Hugh Robertson MP, the Minister for Sport, and our Chair Brigid Simmonds OBE.
