The Sport and Recreation Alliance is pleased to announce that registrations are now open for its Management and Leadership Programme, which returns after a hugely successful first edition last year.

The training programme aims to help participants build managerial competence and confidence so that they can go on to fulfil their potential and aspirations to become future senior leaders within the sport and recreation sector.

Covering all elements of management and leadership, the course is designed for all those whose role involves leading a team beyond first-line management, managing complex programmes and projects and/or coaching and developing existing employees, helping them to achieve personal and organisational goals.

Spaces available for the training are limited and were sold-out in 2021. If you are interested in applying to be on the programme for this year, or wish to nominate a colleague for the programme, you will need complete an application form.

As part of the course, participants will benefit from 12 days of tailored, immersive learning, delivered in a hybrid format - as well as a two-day residential trip towards the start of the programme, where they will have the opportunity to interact more closely with their peers.

The programme will be hosted by Amanda Bennett who is a leading expert in good governance, effective leadership and inclusion. Amanda will be joined by those at the very top of their game, including former national TV presenter Keith Daniell, Tottenham Football Club’s HR Manager, Victoria Parsons, and Hybrid Executive Coach and Psychologist, Steph Tranter.

Learners will undertake a wide range of modules, from developing personal goals and strengths to enhancing team collaboration.

London Sport’s Head of Insight, Daniel Stracey, completed the programme last year and said: “The course was greatly beneficial providing a valuable forum to connect with peers and reflect on best practice.

“The rich and varied range of sessions have helped me to develop my awareness of strengths and revitalise my approach to personal career development keeping this fresh and inspired.”

Karen Roberts, Head of Performance Operations at British Judo, was another one of last year’s graduates and added: “The course has been a fantastic opportunity post the pandemic to come together with lots of different people across the sector and network and understand each other’s environments.

“It has really enabled us to understand the skills around management and leadership, particularly managing our people, understanding our people, getting the best out of our people, and all the tools that are required to do that.

“One thing I’d say is that if anybody is looking for an opportunity to develop their skills within management and leadership, this is definitely a course I’d recommend for them.”
