Nation’s longest serving Monarch to step down as Patron of the Sport and Recreation Alliance

It has been announced today that Her Majesty The Queen will step down as Patron from a number of National Organisations, including the Sport and Recreation Alliance, at the end of her 90th birthday year.

We would like to extend our thanks to Her Majesty for her Patronage and her many years of support. We are ever grateful for the time and effort HM The Queen has put in to the organisation and to help us to promote the power of sport and recreation since 1952.

We are fortunate to be able to continue our long standing relationship with the Royal Family through HRH The Earl of Wessex as our President.

In June, we were delighted to help HM The Queen celebrate her 90th birthday by attending the Patron’s Lunch on the Mall. A number of our members, who work tirelessly to deliver sport and recreation programmes to local communities, were also able to share this special day with us.

In the Queen’s 90th year sport has flourished on both an international and national scale. And, just recently, we have seen record figures of women participating in sport and recreation and this would not have been possible without the enduring support of the Royal Family.

As the Queen steps down as Patron of the Alliance, we wish her every continued success as our Monarch and look forward to welcoming a new Patron in the 2017.
