Treasurer (Board Member)

  • Location: Nationwide
  • Organisation: Association for Physical Education
  • Salary: Voluntary
  • Contract: Part time, Fixed term contract
  • Closing Date: 30 September 2024 | Board & Executive

About Us

The Association for Physical Education (afPE) is the only Physical Education Subject Association in the UK. We are committed to being the representative agency of choice for people and organisations delivering or supporting the delivery of physical education, sport and physical activity in educational contexts and in the wider community.

Our work includes developing physical education related policy, responding to consultations, providing resources, delivering outstanding professional learning across the sector, developing national standards with government and partner agencies, and promoting the subject in a variety of forums.

Our purpose is to promote and maintain high standards and safe practice in all aspects and at all levels of physical education, sport and physical activity. We work to influence developments at national and local levels that will impact on pupils’ physical health and wellbeing

About the Role

afPE is a charitable company, a membership organisation and the subject association for physical education (‘PE’) in the United Kingdom. We are the voice of PE and our vision is to support the workforce to put physical education at the heart of school life. We are proud to have recently launched our new strategy.

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and experienced Treasurer to our Board of Trustees.

The position of Treasurer is a key role in the effective governance of afPE. Whilst financial matters are the responsibility of all Trustees, it is recognised and acknowledged that the Treasurer plays a vital role in overseeing the organisation’s financial activities, ensuring sound financial management, and providing
strategic guidance to the Board and executive team. The Treasurer is also a member of afPE’s Finance Committee.

The afPE Board of Trustees meets at least quarterly, as does the Finance Committee. Meetings are held during the day and mixed between being held virtually and in person. Whilst not essential, it would be preferable for candidates to demonstrate an interest in physical education, sport and/or physical activity.
