Youth Engagement Manager

Job Purpose

We seek someone who started their career in youth engagement and development work and is keen to take the next step. In this role you will work closely with school, university and college boat clubs on strategic development opportunities focused on opening up rowing to more young people from all backgrounds. You will support clubs in diversification of the rowing offer and growth in participation as identified in the new British Rowing Strategy Rowing: Everyones Sport. The ability to connect with young people, enthusiasm and interest to influence change are what are most important in this role. Experience in digital marketing and youth engagement initiatives is desirable.

Responsibilities

Strategic Development:

● Lead the School-Age Strategy to deliver key projects highlighted to improve the experience of rowing for young people.
● Develop a student rowing strategy to support university and college clubs to attract and retain students in the sport for longer. 

Operational Management:

● Be the first point of contact for all school and university club queries.
● Proactively engage clubs to consider outreach programmes and diversification of their offer i.e. into indoor rowing, coastal rowing and recreational formats.
● Launch and manage a Youth Voice Group to champion the voice of young people within the sport.
● Coordinate the State School Rowing Network and champion State School Rowing.
● Maintain good relationships with key stakeholder groups, primarily the Junior Rowing Committee, Kitchin Society, junior outreach programmes and BUCS.
● Lead the development of the Junior Future Leader Awards in collaboration with the British Rowing National Coaching and Junior Rowing committees.
● Present project updates and represent British Rowing at external meetings to get interest and generate engagement with existing and new youth programmes.
● Be the voice of young people within British Rowing in relation to communications, competition formats and in breaking down barriers to participation.
● Support Love Rowing to create more opportunities for people who are currently underrepresented in the sport.
● Travel to key events, meetings and attend and complete training as required.
● Maintain up to date knowledge of new trends in sport and D&I.

Person Specification

• Experience managing a youth development programme or other youth activities, working with young people, is essential.
• Customer-centric ‘people person’ with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proven ability to influence change with senior stakeholders based on strong relationships.
• Experience running qualitative research projects like focus groups and panels to understand views of young people.
• Highly motivated with a can-do attitude and willingness to take on new challenges.
• Experience working within a sporting community.
• Knowledge and experience of how sport clubs and facilities operate at a university and school level.
• Proven track record of delivering engaging presentations and public speaking to senior stakeholders.
• Able to demonstrate long term change achieved in similar programmes including KPIs hit.
• Experience in marketing both digitally and socially to drive engagement from youth.
• Experience tackling challenging behaviour and a demonstratable commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
• Personable, collaborative, and ready to engage with the rowing community, and to contribute to a dedicated, hard-working, supportive and friendly organisation. 

A bit about us

Our passion is rowing. We are the governing body for rowing, responsible for supporting grassroots rowing in England and getting the GB Rowing Team ready for the Olympics, Paralympics and other international competitions.

We are a membership organisation with 30,000 individual members and we offer daily support to over 520 affiliated clubs and 220 affiliated events. We cover all types of rowing whether it’s on the river, in the gym (on a rowing machine) or on the sea and so a key aim is to have an inclusive rowing offer for everyone who has an interest in trying out our sport.

What we offer

We offer a hybrid model of working where you are home based but happy to travel to our head office in Hammersmith every fortnight / monthly. Standard working hours are 9:00 to 17:00 although flexibility is required in order to ensure core objectives are achieved. National travel may be required.We offer a compensation package dependent on your experience but with a base salary between £30,000 and £35,000.
