Access & Conservation Officer (England)

The BMC is the national body for climbers, hill walkers and mountaineers in England and Wales. The organisation has over 80,000 members, 40 staff and a nationwide network of volunteers. Access, conservation and environmental work is a key function of the BMC and this role plays a crucial role in this work – supporting regional volunteers to maintain and improve access to climbing and hill walking sites from the Lake District to Lands End, and Northumberland to the South East.

Job outline

The post has a broad remit including the following: supporting and managing the BMC’s network of regional access volunteers; engaging with countryside bodies and landowners on access, conservation and land management issues; producing educational resources and regular media outputs and promoting good practice amongst new and existing participants; promoting local conservation and habitat restoration projects and maintaining the Regional Access Database (RAD) on the BMC website.
