Role Overview

This role is an exciting opportunity to shape the way we deliver sports medicine inside the Flatwater Canoe (Sprint & Paralympic) Program. On top of existing success at the Tokyo games, British Canoe Sprint and Paracanoe have set ambitious targets for Paris 2024 and beyond. We see this role as crucial to our success in delivering against our medal targets and wider British Canoeing strategy. We are looking for genuine leadership skills alongside exceptional clinical delivery. Alongside this, a fundamental part of the role is to work in an integrated manner as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Working with the Performance Director, Head of Performance Support (HoPS), Athlete Health Lead and wider support team, the role is aimed at improving performance through developing, implementing and evaluating medical services. The role will:

  • Deliver excellent clinical support for all World Class Programme (WCP) and academy athletes (~26; 14 Sprint + 12 Paracanoe) including the effective management of referrals and timetabling of appropriate athlete support (in consultation with physiotherapist, psychologist, and other members of the MDT as relevant).
  • Oversee medical care incl. rapid, accurate diagnosis of new injury or illness. This may include managing complex medical cases to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Be suited for someone whom values being part of a multi-disciplinary team and recognises the balance of consulting/communication with others whilst also making important decisions.
  • Record high standard athlete medical records using the EIS PDMS medical records system in line with the GMC medical record keeping requirements.
  • On occasion, work alongside another doctor (based inside our Slalom program operating out of LVWWC, London) with occasional touch points required for cross program alignment.
