Diversity, Inclusion and Volunteering Lead

Job Summary

The role will lead on the implementation of the Diversity, Equality and Inclusion action plan, which is currently being reviewed and scheduled to re-launch in September 2021, alongside supporting the recruitment of volunteers across the sport.

The successful candidate will have a fantastic opportunity to support the education, enablement and engagement of table tennis clubs, leagues, counties, volunteers, coaches and officials in this area, helping to improve the diversity of table tennis at all levels.

Working across all areas of diversity and inclusion will be an important part of this role, but there will be a priority focus on disability, women and girls, ethnically diverse communities (BAME) and lower socio-economic groups (LSEG).

Key Responsibilities

Diversity, Equality and Inclusion:

  • Supporting the development of Table Tennis England’s Diversity and Inclusion action plan and developing operational guidance to embed and facilitate best practice.
  • Take a lead role in implementing aspects of Table Tennis England’s Diversity, Equality and Inclusion action plan.
  • Support the key deliverers and enablers across the sport in their awareness and understanding with regards to diversity and inclusion.
  • Support the key deliverers and enablers across the sport to diversify their membership, volunteers, coaches and officials.
  • Work with colleagues to ensure that there is a greater diversity of volunteers from local club to national Boardroom level. 
  • Continue to gain a better understanding of peoples’ lived experiences in table tennis from different background and communities. 
  • Develop case studies to demonstrate good practise that exists across the sport.
  • Work closely with the Marcomms department to ensure we showcase positive role models and use appropriate imagery across the sport.
  • Ensure appropriate mechanisms are in place to continually monitor progress against the Diversity, Equality and Inclusion action plan and embed equality impact assessments.
  • Improve our understanding of the diversity of people who want to play table tennis and identify the barriers to participation and provide solutions to encourage them to participate.
  • Championing an ongoing culture of equality and inclusion across all business functions, empowering staff members to take forward in their own lead areas.
  • Lead on various campaigns that can support the outcomes of the diversity action plan.
  • Play an active part in the staff Inclusivity Group.
  • Communicate key messages across the organisation to ensure that staff and volunteers have an up to date understanding of key areas (e.g. correct terminology).
  • Work independently and with the Partnerships Manager to develop relationships with key partners, such as British Para Table Tennis, Activity Alliance and Sporting Equals.

Volunteering:

  • Lead on volunteer recruitment initiatives that help the sport engage a diverse range of new volunteers.
  • Work with colleagues to improve the diversity of volunteers operating within the sport at all levels.
  • Working with the Insight Lead, develop case studies to demonstrate how volunteering can support physical wellbeing, mental wellbeing, community involvement or personal development.
  • Lead on any wider volunteer engagement or recruitment initiatives linked to Birmingham Commonwealth Games in 2022.
  • Develop an improved database of volunteers and increase methods of communication.

Person Specification/Key Skills/Experiences

Essential:

  • Experience of leading or working closely within a diversity and inclusion programme/project.
  • Experience of working with or as a volunteer.
  • Excellent time management skills, ability to multi-task and work on different projects at the same time.
  • Problem solver and able to think innovatively to produce realistic and sustainable ideas for existing and future programmes.
  • Experience of managing or working with projects and producing and implementing programmes.
  • Experience of working with a wide range of external partners.
  • Excellent written skills; able to produce a wide range of written documents including reports and programme proposals.
  • Excellent oral communication skills including delivering presentations.
  • A resilient and flexible approach to work.
  • Great team player and able to work independently.
  • Positive and can-do attitude.
  • Understanding of how to use insight to influence decision making and impact reviewing programmes.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience working in a sport and/or charity organisation.
  • Experience of working with a wide range of external partners.
