Voluntary Member for British Canoeing Inclusion Advisory Group

  • Location: Nationwide
  • Organisation: British Canoeing
  • Salary: Reasonable ‘out of pocket’ expenses reimbursed and the possibility of certain Sport specific benefits
  • Contract: 2 year term
  • Closing Date: 23 April 2021 | Non Executive Director

British Canoeing is the United Kingdom's Governing Body for the sport and recreation of canoeing and kayaking. This is an exciting time to join British Canoeing, as we have made great progress in delivering Stronger Together – an exciting and ambitious strategy for Paddlesport in the UK.

British Canoeing is beginning to address the inequalities present in our sport and across the paddlesport community, in order to broaden access to our sport, and make it a more inclusive environment. As part of this work, we are forming our first Inclusion Advisory Group. The purpose of the group will be to advocate for and promote a culture of respect, and champion diversity as representatives of British Canoeing, and across paddlesports in general, as well as advising on inclusion and anti-discrimination topics across paddlesport.

British Canoeing is recruiting for four independent and four non-independent members. The Independent members will be recruited based on their specific interests or experience in inclusion within a particular protected characteristic, whereas the non-independent members may have a more general interest in equality, diversity and inclusion within a generic sporting or paddlesport specific setting. It is therefore not necessarily required that members have an in-depth understanding of paddlesports, but an understanding of key themes of equality, diversity and inclusion in sport is essential.

It is anticipated that the members recruited to the Advisory Group will be diverse in their demographic, and we are actively looking to recruit members from a range of protected characteristics. The ideal candidates should have a passion for tackling discrimination in sport; be prepared to challenge the status quo within these themes; and provide constructive feedback and ideas on how we might achieve greater equality, diversity and inclusion in paddlesports.

To apply:

Please send your cover letter, CV and completed equality monitoring form to Nancy Squires via email nancy.squires@britishcanoeing.org.uk. Please indicate which type of position (independent or non-independent) you wish to be considered for in your email.

The closing date for applications is 5:00pm on Friday 23 April 2021.

If required, interviews will be held virtually on the week commencing Monday 3rd May 2021.

British Canoeing is an equal opportunities employer and all of the positions are being openly recruited. British Canoeing is committed to recruiting a diverse range of candidates who meet the requirements of the role specification.
