Non-Executive Director (Voluntary Role)

  • Organisation: British Water Ski Federation Ltd
  • Salary: Voluntary Role
  • Closing Date: 21 January 2021 | Non Executive Director

British Water Ski & Wakeboard (BWSW), an operational brand of the British Water Ski Federation, is a sport governing body and membership organisation for water skiers and wakeboarders.

The Board wishes to hire a new Trustee to help implement a fresh initiative to use the power of sport to develop the life skills of young people and adults in areas where sports may have limited availability or prohibitive costs. As BWSW's Board pursues the new initiative outlined above, it is looking for one or more Trustees capable of working with the Board to support this strategy, alongside being involved in wider Board activity.

Central to the role of these new Trustees will be supporting the organisation as it seeks to expand its membership reach across all demographics. This is part of the organisation's wider strategic goal to increase the diversity within the sport.

More generally, the collective duty of the Board is to ensure the highest standard of governance within BWSW in its work to promote the sport across all its disciplines, including by the provision of sound financial management. The Board is keen to ensure that it achieves a broad composition of background skills and diversity to ensure the widest possible reach for the sport.

BWSW's Board is seeking to strengthen the skills mix in support of its strategic goals. An ideal candidate to support the Board in achieving its aim of reaching a more diverse membership base would be an individual with professional experience championing diversity in either an executive or non-executive capacity. This could for example, be an experienced diversity officer in a commercial or not-for-profit organisation. They will have had experience leading diversity and inclusion initiatives, and will be able to advise on the organisation's diversity strategy and how to improve its reach.

Beyond this, in its continued drive to expand its membership base and increase brand awareness, the Board would also welcome applications from individuals with experience in digital marketing, shaping brand awareness and expanding social media presence.

Demonstrating a clear commitment to the goals of the organisation through time and energy will be key attributes of a successful candidate.

Person Specification

  • Senior-level professional experience of driving the diversity and inclusion strategy of an organisation.
  • Candidates will be current in their knowledge of thinking in this area, and will have experience leading relevant initiatives either in-house or as a consultant or external advisor.
  • Demonstrate experience of leading the digital marketing and communications strategy of an organisation. Candidates will have developed brand voice and audience engagement using social media, search engines and email campaigns.

BWSW strongly welcomes applicants from under-represented groups on the Board, especially those committed to work proactively to promote diversity, equality and inclusion. This role is unremunerated, but reasonable, pre-agreed travel expenses will be reimbursed.

The appointment is for a three-year term, which can be renewed at the discretion of the Board.

The deadline for applications is midnight on Thursday 21 January. To apply, please submit a CV and covering letter outlining your suitability for the role to recruitment@bwsf.co.ukFor an informal discussion on the role, please contact our CEO Patrick Donavan at patrick@bwsf.co.uk
