Diversity in Racing Steering Group members required on a voluntary basis.

The Diversity in Racing Steering Group (DiRSG) was formed in July 2017 to work collaboratively to champion diversity and inclusion in British Racing and to support the industry in its efforts. Our vision is for British Racing to be a sport in which everyone has the opportunity to achieve their potential and where fans of all communities feel welcome.

As a unique sport where all genders and people with certain disabilities can compete on equal and fair terms, it’s about moving beyond just doing the right thing. Now, in this exciting and challenging time, more than ever, it is vital that the sport builds on the current momentum to drive change and improve its diversity and inclusion. Racing will be a better, stronger and more sustainable sport if we attract a more diverse audience and a workforce that better represents the make-up of our population.

What does the Diversity in Racing Steering Group do?

The DiRSG is a forum for action and discussion of ideas related to diversity and inclusivity in racing. It operates as an independent voluntary body which provides strategic direction, advice and support to the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) and other industry stakeholders in delivering upon objectives and activities.

In 2018, the DiRSG published the Diversity in Racing Action Plan and in 2019, an Annual Update which outlined the initial priorities which will be reviewed before the end of the year.

The role

Two positions have become available to join the DiRSG. For this exciting role, we are seeking individuals who can:

  • Be an advocate and influencer for diversity and inclusion across the sport to help gain commitment from stakeholders and participants. You will have the passion and ability to challenge and support change across the sport.
  • Attend 3-4 DiRSG meetings per year (virtually or in person), monthly calls when you can, and have the time available to attend occasional additional meetings/calls as part of a sub-group focussed on a specific area.

Experience required

The DiRSG is an organisation that recognises the positive value of diversity, promotes equality and challenges discrimination. We welcome and encourage applications from people of all backgrounds. We particularly welcome applications from disabled and Black, Asian and minority ethnic candidates, as disabled and minority ethnic people are currently under-represented on the DiRSG. A knowledge of horse racing or other sport administration is desirable but not essential.

If you feel you have the relevant skills and experience and are passionate about diversity and inclusion, please apply by completing the short application form. The closing date for applications is Wednesday 23rd September at 11:30pm.
