Independent Non-Executive Director

  • Organisation: England Netball
  • Salary: Voluntary
  • Closing Date: 01 December 2019 | Non Executive Director

Do you want to make a difference by leading England Netball in an exciting new era? England Netball has had an amazing few years and has transformed itself from a traditional national governing body to a sports business. We have done this by being insight led and putting our customers at the heart of everything we do. The aim has always been to offer a format of the game that suits all ages and backgrounds from Bee Netball to Walking Netball to the Vitality Roses. We want to make Netball open to anyone with a love for our sport. With over 1.4 million netballers playing each week we have not lost our appreciation of our responsibility to regulate the sport. We continue to build on the commercial success of recent years and aspire to have a lesser reliance on government funding making the whole sport commercially sustainable. In the last financial year we have seen significant reduction in reliance on public funding, with 50.4% of revenue generated from our own sources, a real term increase of £1.1m from 2017-18. This is something that we will continue to drive forward, increasing our financial sustainability through high profile sponsorship, the growth of our domestic Vitality Netball Superleague, membership and the commercialisation of the delivery of the game.

Winning Gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games skyrocketed the Vitality Roses and the Sport into the limelight. Winning the prestigious Sporting Moment and Team of the Year at the BBC Sport Personality of the Year Awards has kept that success coming. England Netball was also crowned Sports Organisation of the Year at the BT Sport Industry Awards. With the successes of the home Vitality Netball World Cup 2019 that took place in Liverpool, the media and broadcast coverage has gone from strength to strength. The semi-final match between England’s Vitality Roses and New Zealand Silver Ferns had viewing figures of over 1 million across all channels. We are seeking two Non-Executive Independent Directors to serve on the board who can continue our successes and continue to drive forward the strategic growth and financial sustainability of the Sport. Following a skills analysis England Netball has identified the need to seek candidates with a broad commercial skillset who have a dynamic and creative approach to commercialisation. Experience in media, events, music, entertainment or sport industries is desirable.

England Netball is keen to address underrepresentation throughout the sport and particularly welcomes applications from the BAME community, disabled people and people from the LGBT+ community. If you wish to be considered for appointment to the Board as a Non-Executive Director, please contact Michael Ferndale, HPA Advisory who is managing this process on behalf of England Netball, 07855850175.
