Badminton England Advisory Board Members

Badminton England is in an exciting period of business transformation as the organisation continues its journey towards the achievement of our vision. 
Badminton England is one of the leading governing bodies of sport in England.

We have grown the sport to be the fifth biggest participation sport in England, we own the All England Open Badminton Championships - the greatest and most prestigious Open Championships in the world and a grand slam tournament that reaches a global audience of 250 million annually. 

As we strive to medal at World, Olympic and Paralympic level, the Performance programme has recently achieved [GB's first ever Men's Doubles Olympic medal, a World Championship medal, 6 Commonwealth medals, 3 European golds, one silver and two bronze and in Parabadminton, Team England won 8 World Championship medals including 4 gold and it won an amazing 14 European medals, including 7 gold].  

The appointments

Led by a newly appointed Chair and a Board containing a number of new Directors, this is an exciting time to join us in playing a vital role in supporting and inspiring the next phase of the development of badminton in England. 

We are seeking to appoint two new Advisory Boards, the Player Development Board and the England Performance Board, in order to support the Board of Directors in providing oversight of the development of key aspects of the game, expert advice (to both the Board of Directors and the Executive Team) and monitoring our performance.  

Main tasks, duties & responsibilities

STRATEGIC 

All Advisory Board members are expected to:

o Provide strategic leadership, insight and expert guidance to ensure that Badminton England achieves their strategic objectives.

o Make a positive contribution to the ongoing development and review of the strategy. 

The role of the Player Development Board is to provide oversight on matters including but not limited to, participation, player progression and development, coach education and learning, coaching development, competition and duty of care.

The role of the England Performance Board is to provide oversight on matters including but not limited to, player progression and development, coach education and learning, coaching development, domestic competition, team championships and selection criteria, medals and duty of care.

COMMUNICATION

All Advisory Board members are expected to: 

o Promote the strategy and objectives to internal and external stakeholders. 

o Advocate on behalf of Badminton England, in collaboration with the Board of Directors, fellow Advisory Board Members and staff.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE 

 The Player Development Board will be composed of those who have:

o A knowledge of the pathways and structures within English badminton to include, but not be limited to, participation, coach education learning, coaching development and competition.

o Proven experience in developing players and coaches.

o A passion for wanting and contributing to growth and success.

In addition to additional representation from the Board of Directors, the Player Development Board will be composed of the following relevant and demonstrable experience:

o Player introduction and retention.

o Club or County representative.
