Regional Chair – South

Voluntary: Annual election process with a maximum term of no more than four years in any five.

Location:  Based within the RYA South Region geographic area. This being Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, West Berkshire, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, the Channel Islands and the part of West Sussex which falls within the Chichester Harbour AONB.

The Role

RYA South Region has the exciting opportunity for an inspirational and experienced leader to undertake the Chair role for its Regional Committee. This person will lead the region alongside the Regional Development Officer (RDO) to support and deliver an agreed action plan which aligns the RYA’s strategic objectives within a local context, this being outlined currently in the RYA South Regional Plan 2017 – 2021. The region is also entering a time of forward planning, which the chair will play a central role in the creation and facilitation of a stakeholder engagement process leading to the production of the 2021 – 2025 RYA South Regional Plan.

The Chair will work with the region’s committee, specialist appointment holders, and staff team to maximise the effectiveness of the RYA locally, through playing a lead role together with the RDO in ensuring that these three teams work in an integrated manner.

The Chair will act as leader and principal spokesperson for the Regional Committee. Usually chairing all regional meetings of the committee and be the committee’s representative at the English Regional Forum. In addition, the Chair will represent RYA South on other regional bodies as needed.

The Chair should have a broad experience of boating within the South Region and be able to think strategically, taking a regional view. In addition, the chair will need to be organised, diplomatic, IT literate and have good communications skills.

The region is therefore looking to invite interested parties to come forward to stand for election to this voluntary role.

All candidates will stand for election at the region’s AGM on the 19th October 2019. Please note that all standing candidates must be purposed by an affiliate from within the region so please include details of this information in your covering letter. 

In the event of there being more than one candidate a vote will be conducted with present voting affiliates and the candidate obtaining the highest number of votes being elected.

We would like to circulate overviews of all standing candidates with the AGMs agenda so ask for all candidate to submit the above by 8 September 2019.

If elected there is a requirement for the regional chair to be an individual member of the RYA, and to sign an IP Waiver and Code of Conduct forms and complete a “fit and proper person’s” declaration.
