National Development Director

Salary: £45,000 - £48,000

Location: Nationwide

GB Wheelchair Rugby continues to be excited about creating opportunities for more disabled people to play the game. Over the last 3 years we have expanded our offer and have created Wheelchair Rugby 5s for those who have more functionality than permitted under the Paralympic version of the sport and we are providing a Junior version in partnership with the Lord’s Taverners charity. We have 25 clubs playing across England, Scotland and Wales and we deliver programmes in Spinal Injury Units and as part of a growing number of charitable foundations such as those of Saracens, Gloucester, Northampton, Newcastle, Leicester and Ospreys rugby clubs. Our principal partner is Sport England who recognised the success of our delivery with year on year reward and recognition investment during the last cycle and has invested £1.45M for core market delivery until 2021 and £300k for our Talent programme. The GB team is currently ranked 5th in the world and has attracted the maximum funding available from the recently launched Aspiration Fund. The team is on an upward performance trajectory and won the silver medal in the recent King Power Quad Nations tournament.

Working direct to the CEO, and deputising for him in his absence, you will join a small, highly dynamic and focused senior management team which is totally committed to providing opportunities for disabled people to become part of vibrant wheelchair rugby communities. You will manage a delivery team of 10 and in addition to the administrative and management challenges there will be times when you have to roll up your sleeves and get stuck in with supporting them. This is an exciting time to join us as we continue to grow and provide more wheelchair rugby to more people. You will have a key role in helping shape the next strategic plan and will lead on the development of any new investment proposal for partners such as Sport England. We are a dynamic organisation and as such changes to the core duties and responsibilities of the role may be required at times. If you are ambitious, believe you share our core values and are able to demonstrate them in your day to day working, then we would like to hear from you.

This is a permanent position based on 37 hour week. Our Head Office is at Twickenham and the successful candidate will be expected to attend regular meetings there but the role is essentially mobile.
