Regional Tennis Competitions Coordinator

Salary: Circa £26,000 dependent on experience, excellent benefits including a company car

Location: This is a mobile role based in the London, South East and East Region

About the role

· The London, South East & East regional team will play a vital role in driving the LTA mission of more people playing tennis, more often. Supporting a population of around 22 million people, of which 2 million currently play the sport monthly, there is a significant opportunity to drive participation in tennis. There is a strong tennis landscape including 138 Local Authority areas, nearly all of which have a stock of public tennis facilities, over 1100 registered tennis venues and over 5000 competitions each year. The role of the team will be to create and deliver a long term vision for the region, in line with the LTA strategy, that will maximise the opportunity to drive participation in tennis across a real heartland for the sport.

· In summary the role will be responsible for working with the Regional Tennis Competition Manager to deliver the operational competition plan for the region covering workforce support, Recreational Competition Products and Tournament Programmes.

· This role is responsible for the overall coordination, promotion and delivery of an annual calendar of competitions for tennis players of all ages and abilities in the region. Ideally you will already have knowledge and expertise of competitions and will have previously managed tournaments or leagues. You will work closely with a team of Regional Office Team, volunteers, referees, officials and the wider tennis workforce to support a broad range of competitions.

· The role requires someone who is excellent at co-ordinating programmes and an expert in supporting partners to deliver competition at all levels.

Key Accountabilities

Management

· To ensure there is high quality of delivery of competition promoting a good experience and, therefore, increased retention and growth

· To work with the Competitions Team to ensure that the Regional plan is a model of best practice and is fully utilising all relevant support

· To work with the Competitions Team, Education Team, Volunteering Manager and the Regional workforce lead to ensure that there are plans in place to appropriately support the development of people in appropriate venues across the Region

· To provide regular training to up-skill and brief the regional participation delivery team on new or enhanced competition products and offers

· Work with County Associations to ensure that there is good awareness of competition activity and support within their area and that any local schemes are linked in to the Regional plan as appropriate

· To monitor regional and county competition trends to ensure competition targets are achieved

Competition Workforce and Support

· To retain, recruit and develop the competition workforce in the region

· To provide regular communication and feedback to the competition workforce

· To be a super user of TTP, LP, Tournament Creation, Online Entry and Results Manager and to provide regular training to others, to enable effective delivery by local competition organisers

· To ensure that there is a strong training plan in place to continue to develop the quantity and quality of the competition workforce across the Region

· To lead the planning of the competition calendar across the Region to ensure it is appealing and appropriate to the player base

· To ensure that there is a strong coverage of support with competition queries across the Region

· To oversee the delivery of the Regional Tour (Grade 3), working with Regional Office Team and Tournament Director

· To oversee the delivery of the County Tour (Grade 4&5) and Matchplay Circuits, enabling more external competition organisers and referees to deliver a programme of high quality events throughout the region

Competition Products

· To ensure that there is a strong coverage of competition products and programmes across the Region

· To work with the Regional Team to identify and support a targeted number of partner venues (club, community & education) and networks to increase regular participation through competition

· To ensure that there is a strong element of appropriate competition within key Local Authority areas plans for the Region including Local Tennis Leagues

· To work closely with the Competitions Team based at the NTC to coordinate delivery of core club competition programmes including; Road to Wimbledon, Benenden Tennis Festivals and Quorn Family Tennis Cup

· To work closely with the Competitions Team based at the NTC to coordinate delivery of core team competition programmes including; Aegon Team Tennis, Team Challenge and Team Tennis Schools

· To provide guidance & support to County Associations to support the effective delivery of County Championships, County & District Leagues & other County based tennis competitions

General

· To provide 2nd line support for regional competition enquiries and to respond to feedback and enquiries in a timely and professional manner

· To attend regular meetings with the Competitions Team based at the National Tennis Centre

· To developing and maintain a broad and relevant understanding of British tennis and an expert knowledge of the GB competitive structure

· To establish and maintain relationships with key Regional stakeholders and partners

· To work with the Regional Team to implement effective regional and county communication plans to support delivery against strategic outcomes

· To be an ambassador for Tennis in Britain positively promoting the sport and those that work and volunteer within it

· To contribute to or lead on projects, as required

· To lead on the values and behaviours of the LTA, supporting others to follow by example

Essential

· Event Management and/or competition delivery

· Displaying excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to liaise and communicate with people at all levels

· Strong organisational, time management and prioritisation skills

· Developing, maintaining, and strengthening partnerships with others inside or outside the organisation who can provide information, assistance, and support

· Using tennis competition software tools such as TTP, LP and Results Manager

Desirable

· The ability to gain others' support for ideas, proposals, projects, and solutions

· Negotiating with a broad range of partners to deliver shared outcomes

· Social media and marketing

Knowledge, Training & Qualifications

Essential

· Competent IT skills (Word/ Excel/PowerPoint/Databases/Microsoft Office/internet)

· Full Driving Licence

· A satisfactory DBS disclosure

· An understanding of local, County, Regional and National Tennis structures

Desirable

· An understanding of the wider sports network and the elements involved in developing competition in Club, Community and Education settings

· Sports development and/or sports facility management qualifications
