Performance Lifestyle Advisor (Working with British Triathlon)

Role Summary

This role will provide the delivery and development of Performance Lifestyle support to world class programme athletes complimenting the objectives of the sport and working as part of a multi-disciplinary team. 

As a senior member of the Performance Lifestyle team at the EIS you will contribute to knowledge development, aggregation and sharing across the organisation to support the development of world class Performance Lifestyle services and practice.

All Performance Lifestyle practitioners, as with any other EIS practitioners, are expected to work within the HCSI Professional Code of practice to ensure the highest standards of practice are met at all times.

Main Tasks and Activities

As a Senior Performance Lifestyle Advisor for the sport, you will work with the Head of Performance Science Services, Head of Performance Medical Services and Performance Lifestyle Technical Lead to set objectives and strategy, aimed at providing and developing the best Performance Lifestyle support possible.

  • Working with the athletes, coaches and multidisciplinary support team to support the delivery of the BTF Performance programme Vision: ‘Great experiences through swim, bike and run’; and Mission: ‘Developing people and delivering excellence to inspire growth’.
  • Working in partnership with athletes and high-performance stakeholders to support and encourage a culture that delivers performance and responsibly cares for its people.
  • Work with the Head of Performance Science Services and multiple key stakeholders to develop and embed overarching Performance Lifestyle World Class Basics and potential methods of delivery.
  • Leading and supporting athletes to develop the skills to thrive and manage their optimal personal balance for the conflicting demands of being an elite athlete e.g. education, employment, family, financial, etc.
  • Promoting the importance and positive impact of athletes creating and developing broader identities and interests beyond their sport in maintaining personal wellbeing and supporting athletes to develop those broader identities.
  • Link into the programme wide individual athlete performance planning process to specifically support and align the personal and professional development of triathletes across the pathway.
  • Proactively engaging athletes in future life planning and career development to assist with their athletic retirement, with the emphasis on early intervention and continued personal and professional development throughout their time on the WCP.
  • Lead on the development and implementation of the WCP entry transition and associated induction process, working with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proactively support athletes as they experience transitions through and from the WCP, specifically, leading on a coordinated exit transition process to ensure positive transition from the WCP.
  • Providing proactive exit and transition support for athletes leaving the WCP for up to 6 months after funding cessation.
  • Contribute to and where appropriate lead specific components of the Mental Health Strategy with the Mental Health working group and continue the development of co-ordinated and collaborative psychosocial work with the Performance Psychologist.
  • Work with the Performance Director and Head of Performance People and Culture Development to support Athlete Commission members (Athlete Voices and Athlete Representative) to effectively represent athletes from across the WCP and Training Centres, including engagement with UK Sport and the British Athletes Commission on the ongoing development of Athlete Commission members.
  • Providing a safe, impartial, and where appropriate confidential space to support athletes – sign posting and referring onward as appropriate to safeguard the welfare and well-being of the athlete.
  • Contribute to knowledge development, aggregation and sharing across the organisation to support the development of world class performance lifestyle services and the high-performance system #CollectiveBrilliance.
