ROLE SUMMARY

The aim of the EIS Mental Health Team is to promote and support positive mental health for all people operating across the UK High Performance System. This new role will ensure a dedicated focus on developing and maintaining a culture where everyone has the best opportunity to experience good mental health and wellbeing and that there is appropriate support for those experiencing mental health problems.

The Mental Health Lead role is intended to encourage consistency and quality of mental health support within World Class Programmes (WCPs). It will act as a link between ‘on the ground’ support within WCPs and the EIS Mental Health Expert Panel’s system-wide perspective.

MAIN TASKS AND ACTIVITIES

With an identified group of WCPs (i.e. Olympic and Paralympic sports):

  • Participate in each WCP’s mental health working group.
  • Facilitate the mental health referral process via the Athlete Medical Scheme, both when making referrals to external practitioners and supporting ‘reintegration back into’ WCPs.
  • Linking with and reporting to EIS Mental Health Expert Panel for supervision and updates on activity across the High Performance System.
  • Support of WCP practitioners (e.g. Chief Medical Officers / Sport & Exercise Medical Doctors, Performance Psychologists, Performance Lifestyle Practitioners, etc.) on management of mental health concerns ‘in-house’ within WCPs.
  • Support, manage and co-deliver Mental Health Awareness workshops and Mental Health Champion programmes within WCPs (where applicable).
  • N.B. it is not the intention for this role to deliver direct mental health interventions or care to athletes and support staff within WCPs.

  • EIS Acting Head of Mental Health;
  • EIS Mental Health Expert Panel;
  • EIS Mental Health Officer;
  • EIS Athlete Health Team;
  • World Class Programme staff (e.g. Programme Directors, Heads of Performance Support, Chief Medical Officers, Psychologists and Performance Lifestyle Practitioners);

So that we can more closely reflect UK society, we particularly encourage applications from under-represented groups including Black, Asian and people with other ethnically diverse backgrounds, those with a disability or long-term health condition and people returning to work after a career break.

We also understand the importance of maintaining a healthy work-life balance, so all of our roles are open to flexible working and, in many cases, remote-working too.
