Treasurer

  • Organisation: British Kickboxing Council
  • Salary: Some expenses are covered where appropriate
  • Contract: 3 year term
  • Closing Date: 31 May 2021 | Non Executive Director

The British Kickboxing Council's primary goal is to be recognised as the national governing body for the sport here in the UK, increasing participation, improving engagement with all areas of the wider community and developing each discipline of Kickboxing from grassroots to elite performance.

Our sport has reached a pivotal point in its history, with the BKC itself also celebrating a milestone 10th year in operation, as we now work more closely with leading bodies within the sector than ever before.

Our work on inclusion with UK Deaf Sport, Pride Sports and the Muslim Women's Sport Foundation, alongside our work on Safeguarding with the NSPCC, DCMS and Sport England, has cemented our place at the forefront of our industry. Similarly, our membership to the WSA, SSA, NISF and Sport and Recreation Alliance (as well as pending membership to the Activity Alliance) gives us a unique position in the UK's sporting landscape as a whole.

Job Description

As Treasurer, you will be responsible for ensuring the effective and legal management of funds and project budgets within the BKC. Although the role is not completely autonomous, as decisions which impact either the sport or the BKC must be put to a vote, your voice will be heard at AGMs, EGMs and regular ongoing discussions regarding the governance of the BKC, and you will be given the chance to propose and manage your own projects.

Responsibilities Include

  • Providing quarterly and annual financial reports for the BKC overall, as well as assisting Project Managers in presenting figures for their respective projects.
  • Ensuring that the BKC's financial operations are compliant with UK Law and meet the Governance Principals.
  • Presenting methods of maximising the availability of funds to help deliver our various projects.
  • Liaising with the Chair, Secretary and other Board members to ensure collaborative delivery of all duties.
  • Assisting in the setting and management of Project budgets.
  • Helping with financial planning as part of our broader commercial strategy, including income projections and support in using these to better plan our calendar of events/programmes going forward.
  • Acting as a signatory for payments which need to be made from the BKC account.
  • Supporting fundraising efforts, grants management and awarding of sponsorships.

Experience

We are looking for someone with experience within both the sport and financial sectors, who is aware of the expectations placed upon a governing body of sport and who, ideally, will be able to provide guidance to club owners and promoters in ensuring that their own finances are managed correctly.

Commitment and Remuneration

All Board members volunteer what time they can, but typically are expected to commit at least two days per month. We hold a face-to-face AGM, alongside regular (at least monthly) remote meetings with some members of the Board and relevant Committees. Attendance at these meetings is requested, where possible, in addition to self-managed work and coordination with other members of the BKC.

The term is 3 years, with a maximum of 3 consecutive terms for the role.

There are currently no remuneration packages for any Board members or Officers of the BKC, although some expenses are covered where appropriate. As the BKC and the roles with in it grow, this policy will be reviewed.

Fight4Equality

The BKC is an equal opportunities organisation and is committed to the promotion of equality and diversity for all existing and prospective employees and volunteers.

We promote inclusion and we celebrate diversity, both within our sport and within our team, building a culture where difference is valued. The BKC recruit the best people based on an evaluation of their abilities, merit and effectiveness.

The deadline for applications is midnight on Monday 31 May 2021.
