Head of Performance Support & Science

  • Organisation: Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby
  • Salary: £50k-£55k depending on experience
  • Closing Date: 26 March 2021 | Coaching & Sports Development

This is a fantastic opportunity for a committed, ambitious and innovative performance specialist to become part of our world class team. Despite being unfunded for the Tokyo cycle, GB Wheelchair Rugby has thrived and is now ranked fourth in the world and has won the last three consecutive European Championships. As with many sports, COVID-19 has had a major impact on our programme over the last 12 months and regrettably it interrupted our positive performance momentum, but we remain optimistic that Tokyo could provide our first Paralympic medal, which would be an incredible achievement against the huge challenges we have faced over the cycle.

Whatever the summer brings, what we do know is that we are well positioned for future success. We have secured UK Sport WCP funding for the Paris cycle and we have an exciting, resilient, medal hungry squad with a nice balance between experience and youth. We are recognised as having the best club system and development programme in the world and have recently reviewed our performance pathway offer. We will be looking to appoint a Performance Pathway Manager ahead of the summer to bring life to the pathway and ensure we have a stream of well-prepared athletes knocking on the door of the GB team.

Whilst we are looking for our HPSS now and would ideally like the successful candidate to start soon, we are not asking the individual to play a part in our Tokyo preparation but to be planning and putting things in place for Paris and beyond. This means there is flexibility around the start date for the right candidate, and if you are currently working with a team that you wish to see through to Tokyo in the summer we will be open to a later start date providing we have a contractual commitment from you.

Apply only if you share our ambition, our values and our commitment to excellence. Not just excellence in performance but excellence in how we lead, respect others and play our part in creating opportunities for disabled people to thrive and lead fulfilling lives.
